Friends of the Earth

Friends of the Earth claims to be the biggest grassroots environmental campaigning community in the world with 5,000 local activist groups and over 2 million members and supporters worldwide.

They are running a Climate Change campaign which includes inviting the public to sign a petition to the UK government to take urgent climate action.

Their website has a number of ideas about what we all can do to fight climate change and what the government should be doing.

There is currently no official Friends of the Earth group in Coventry, there is an unofficial Facebook group.

There is an official group in Leamington.

Hi, first of all a BIG thanks for all you’ve been doing. Recently, I have become aware of the issue regarding Carbon Dioxide and Carbon Monoxide poisoning within Coventry City. The Council is approving further inner city developments which will increase levels. I am a local resident next to a large green area with Mature Lombardi Poplar trees which will most likely be carved up to make way for 204 proposed houses. I’m also helping residents fight another proposal in Coventry. I need data and advice regarding the air pollution levels to make a case. I have contacted Client Earth and would like to make a case that Coventry CC is not upholding the aims laid out in the Department of Environment. On one hand millions of pounds are being spent to improve the Hollyhead Road bottleneck but green areas within the city will have 100’s of additional vehicles. Can you please help?
