India suffering extreme heatwave yet buying more Russian Oil
So far in 2022, parts of India and Pakistan have recorded their highest average temperatures on record, and yet it is increasing its purchases of Russian oil.
The oil has been sold at discounted prices because, as global energy prices are rising, the price of Russian oil is falling due to lack of demand following economic sanctions because of the invasion of Ukraine.
But should India purchase this oil? US president Joe Biden does not think so. In April he told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that buying more oil from Russia was not in India’s interest and could hamper the U.S. response to the war in Ukraine.
