Major CO2 capture plant being built in Iceland
Euronews reports that construction is beginning on what may become the world’s biggest CO2 capture capture plant.
Climeworks AG which is building the plant, called Mammoth, says the new direct air capture (DAC) plant will have have capacity to and deposit 36,000 tonnes of CO2 it underground every year.
This is only one millionth part of all energy-related CO2 emissions produced worldwide last year, but is nevertheless a 10-fold increase from the current largest plant.
Climeworks plans to have multi-megaton capacity plants by 2030 and to deliver gigaton capacity by 2050
