Mock COP26
Between the 19th November and the 1st December 2020, frustrated by the postponement of COP26 conference until November 2021, young people will be running a youth led, youth run online conference that will show the world what would happen if young people were the decision makers.
They will be following a similar structure to the postponed COP26 climate summit to raise the ambition of our leaders when it comes to tackling the climate emergency.
The Guardian reports that the conference has been designed to be more inclusive than a typical Cop meeting and to have a greater focus on the countries most affected by the climate emergency. More time will be allocated to countries from the global south, and these countries will be allowed five delegates each, as opposed to three per country in the global north, giving them a greater say in the voting.
According to the Guardian, the postponed 2020 COP26 was lambasted for its planned all-male team of hosts, adding to growing disillusionment with the process after last year’s talks ended with limited progress on emissions targets.
