Plastic Free Coventry
Plastic Free Coventry is a community project facilitated by the charity Surfers Against Sewage.
Did you know that every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our oceans? That 320,000,000 metric tons of plastic generated globally in 2016? And that this is set to double by 2034? And perhaps worst of all, that 1 in 3 fish caught for human consumption contain plastic?
Across the country there are already over 420 communities working towards reducing plastic pollution. It’s about kicking our addiction to single-use plastic and changing the system that produces it. We may not be a coastal community but it is all around us nonetheless; littering our pavements, roadsides, countryside, hedgerows and rivers.
We are all well aware we are using and producing more plastic than we can ever dispose of or recycle. It’s time to think globally and act locally.
