Finding Help with Climate Anxiety
We published an article in 2019 explaining that Climate Anxiety is Normal and Healthy and since then a lot of people have been suffering from COVID anxiety.
But we were not aware at the time of writing that a plan existed to increase the number of people with anxiety disorders or depression who can access talking therapies through an online service called Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT). This programme began in 2008 and claims to have transformed the treatment of adult anxiety disorders and depression in England and to be widely-recognised as the most ambitious programme of talking therapies in the world. In 2018 more than one million people accessed IAPT services for help to overcome their depression and anxiety, and better manage their mental health.
If you live in England, are aged 18 or over and are registered with a doctor (GP) you can access NHS psychological therapies (IAPT) services.
Your GP can refer you, or you can refer yourself directly without a referral.
IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) services offer talking therapies, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), counselling, other therapies, guided self-help and help for common mental health problems, like anxiety and depression.
