Solihull Council’s Grid for Learning (Solgrid) offers a wide range of services and information to empower schools to develop sustainability from whatever starting point they are at.

A schools’ sustainability engagement officer based in the sustainable development team works with schools. The Solihull sustainable schools (PDF) leaflet provides details of support available. Their programme includes:

• Greener Solihull schools awards
• Sustainable support
• Energy (see a case study at  Teach the children – automated meter reader workshop ).
•  Love Solihull run various litter and waste campaigns, litter picking equipment and lesson ideas available
• Solihull Council is a fairtrade borough and supports schools to promote  Fairtrade.
• Switch Solihull for various sustainable travel initiatives
• Food and physical activity

It is disappointing that Coventry City Council seems to offer nothing similar. More work for CovCAN to do!
