Coventry Green New Deal (CGND) will be organising this event on Saturday 14 March in Coventry Council House. Note the start time of this event has now changed to 10:30.
Climate change is real. We must reduce emissions significantly in the next decade to avoid irreversible damage to both natural and human environments.
Locally, this means finding ways to heat our homes, travel and eliminate our waste without producing carbon, as well as greening our city to absorb what we do produce.
Coventry City Council is currently drafting a strategy to build a carbon-neutral local economy. They intend to consult with residents later this year.
CGND welcome the Council’s initiative, but want to go further. Inspired by plans for a socially just transition, we want to create a People’s Green New Deal for Coventry.
Join CGND for a collaborative and participatory workshop with expert speakers on the Green New Deal and democratic planning, including:
Zarah Sultana, MP Coventry South and founding member of Birmingham Labour for a Green New Deal
Richard Lee of London-based democratic planning organisation, Just Space
Hilary Wainwright, author of The Lucas Plan and former advisor to the Greater London Council’s Popular Planning Unit.
