Shadow Climate Change Strategy for Coventry from Coventry Green New Deal
Coventry Green New Deal has published the final version of its Shadow Climate Change Strategy for Coventry entitled “A Greener, Healthier and More Prosperous Future” which can be read below or downloaded here.
Produced with the engagement of the local community and nearly 50 expert practitioners and academic, the document seeks to provide Councillors and the wider public with a resource allowing them to better scrutinise the City Council’s record on climate action and point to a way forward that allows us to seize upon the opportunity of climate action. It has already led to protests in the city over the city’s recycling record and public meetings to better inform the development of the city’s Local Plan.
“Written in plain English, Coventry Green New Deal’s shadow strategy lays out the city’s climate challenge in terms of current emissions and local impacts of climate change, makes recommendations for the city’s carbon budget and offers a roadmap for considers how this budget can be delivered across the major emissions sources,” comments Coventry Green New Deal interim Chair, David Ridley.
“As we go into the new year, Coventry Green New Deal will continue to work with the Council and wider community to ensure Coventry is a world leader in reducing emissions, tackling the nature crisis and building environmental resilience,” Ridley adds.
A-Greener-Healthier-and-More-Prosperous-FutureCoventry Green New Deal (CGND) are a campaign group that aims to work with local citizens to build a cleaner, greener Coventry. Social justice is at the heart of their campaign, and they believe that neither the effects of climate change nor solutions to avert it should falls on the shoulders of the poor or vulnerable. CGND do not want to reinvent the wheel, but rather seek to work with people and community groups already taking action, as well as elected politicians and progressive businesses, and bring them together within a holistic plan for a just transition.
